The Building Strong Families (BSF) project is one of the centerpieces of a broad policy strategy to support healthy marriage.
The project, funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service, Administration for Children and Families, will
determine whether well-designed interventions can help interested, unwed parents realize their hopes for a healthy marriage
and thus enhance the well-being of their children. Healthy Families San Angelo was one of seven programs in the
country selected to be part of this groundbreaking research to evaluate impacts and point to lessons about how to run effective
healthy marriage programs.
Couples enrolled in the BSF project receive intensive, long-term, home-based family support that focuses on the couple
relationship, parenting, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and raising the family's level of
functioning through improved employment and/or education.
Project
couples also participate in Couple Time, a 24-week group-based workshop provided by Healthy Families San Angelo
which offers a relaxed, family living room atmosphere form couples to have fun while they learn relationship skills including communication, trust,
and goal-setting.
