Sports Camp
The annual Healthy Families Sports Camp kicks off each summer with a curriculum offering children in the HFSA program
a free sporting adventure in T-ball, basketball, and soccer.
Children ages three through eight have an evening of fun and get a great workout at Sports Camp. At the camp they learn the
rules and basic skills for T-ball, soccer, and basketball. More important are the skills the children learn about social
interaction and teamwork. For the parents, the purpose of the camps is to encourage them to participate in their children's
activities and introduce families to sports programs and activities available for kids in the community.

Children's Fair
The Children's Fair was created by and is hosted by Healthy Families San Angelo. Designed for kids
and families, it is held each year on the 4th Sunday of April, recognized internationally as the Month
of the Child. The Fair is the Healthy Families local fundraising event. Over 100 food, game,
and activity booths are set up and run by nonprofit groups and organizations benefitting children's causes.
Participating organizations are able to earn funds for their children's projects by retaining 90% of the
gross profits of their booths. The cost of operating the Children's Fair is underwritten by business
sponsors who sign on each year to help. These sponsors enable Healthy Families to share profits with
nonprofit organizations. The Healthy Families Children's Fair is a 17-year tradition in San Angelo, one
that families eagerly anticipate. The Fair's focal point is the Open Stage for children to perform
on. Local dance schools, gymnastics teams, karate schools, church choirs, and individuals perform
on the Open Stage. In addition, the Area-Wide Coloring Contest is held for all kids from pre-K through
6th grade. Generous businesses and individuals donate prizes for a giant prize giveaway that benefits
Healthy Families.
Hundreds of volunteers make the Children's Fair happen each year. The community spirit the Fair embodies,
involving people from all walks of life, is a reflection of the importance San Angelo places on its youth.

Families' Swim Party
At the end of August each year, Healthy Families participants are treated to our Families’ Swim Party at Brown’s
Pool. It’s an evening of swimming, diving, and splashing in the pool, playing on the swings and climbing
equipment, and enjoying an evening meal (usually pizza and drinks) provided by Healthy Families San Angelo. The
pool is reserved just for us, and a lifeguard is on duty. The Swim Party is a great experience for the whole
family and a chance for parents to bond with their children while teaching them to float, swim, and dive.

Families' Halloween Party
Kids and parents alike really have fun with this event, held within a week of Halloween. Our families
usually dress in costume in the “spirit” of the event and enjoy booths that include Go Fish, Face Painting,
Cupcake Walk, Bean Bag Toss, and Madam Zorro the fortune teller. Kids love winning prizes ranging from
a piece of candy to a spooky spider ring. There’s even a craft booth for the kids to make their own
take-home gifts.

Superbowl Party
Held a week or two prior to the Superbowl, this event offers plenty of fun for dads, and they don’t have to
miss the real game! This table-top football game night is played for bragging rights for a year.
Dads have a great time competing in regular season games, playoffs, and the big championship game—the
Superbowl! To make the evening complete, dads feast on “ballgame food” like chili dogs, popcorn,
and more!

Families' Easter Party
There’s a big Easter bunny just waiting to give hugs to all the kids at the annual Families’
Easter Party, held on Good Friday in the park next to the Healthy Families San Angelo building.
Kids go on a huge Easter Egg hunt, trying to find the 2,000 eggs hidden by our staff. The
kids are divided by age to ensure the little ones of finding their share. A crafts booth,
a bubble booth, a photo booth, and several snack booths offer plenty for the whole family to do!

Families' Christmas Party
Our annual Families’ Christmas Party is held at a local church hall in mid-December and is one of the
biggest, most popular events we sponsor. The Board and Staff of Healthy Families San Angelo prepare
and serve dinner for an average of 400 people each year. All the families currently in the program
are invited for a full dinner of turkey and dressing, ham, mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, corn, green
beans, bread, cranberry sauce, fruit salad, cake and cookies, and tea or Kool-Aid. During the
evening, everyone is treated to personalities singing Christmas carols, many door prizes, a gift for
each child, and a chance to have a photo taken on Santa’s lap!
